The Batten University field hockey team (2-2) secured its second win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Sewanee, powered by two goals from Landry Meyer and a late game-winner from Katherine Druiett.
Meyer led the Batten attack with two goals on six shots, including three shots on goal, while Druiett scored the game-winner. Rogers and Wells each recorded an assist. Miller earned the win in goal after playing all 60 minutes and making five saves. Wells added the defensive save as the Marlins held Sewanee scoreless over the final 24:25 of the contest.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Sewanee struck first just over a minute into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Marlins responded almost immediately, as Meyer found the back of the cage at the 17:23 mark to even the contest at 1-1. Batten continued to apply pressure and took its first lead of the afternoon four minutes later when Meyer scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Isabelle Rogers, sending the Marlins into halftime ahead 2-1.
The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 early in the third quarter, but Batten answered again. Kaylee Lowry put back-to-back shots on goal late in the period before the Marlins earned a penalty corner. With just 47 seconds remaining in the third, Druiett scored off an assist from Regan Wells to put Batten back in front, 3-2.
The Marlins' defense made the one-goal advantage stand throughout the fourth quarter. Wells came up with a crucial defensive save less than two minutes into the period, while goalkeeper Berkley Miller stopped Sewanee's final shot on goal with 3:38 remaining to preserve the victory.
