The Batten University women's tennis team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Catholic University, 4-3, winning four of six singles matches to secure the victory.
Catholic took the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Batten's victory came at No. 2 doubles, where Jette Dammeier and Jette Hafermann defeated Meaghan Laniewski and Ella Knox, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Mikisha Thomas and Anouk Bluemm fell 6-0 to Annie Nemoy and Carmen Valentino. Lexi Hackbirth and Sarah Reich battled at No. 3 doubles but dropped a 6-3 decision to Elaina Nesbitt and Cristina Moreira.
Trailing 1-0 entering singles play, the Marlins responded with victories on four courts.
Lexi Hackbirth picked up Batten's first singles victory at No. 3, defeating Knox in a tightly contested match, 6-4, 7-6 (8). Jette Hafermann followed with a dominant performance at No. 4 singles, defeating Laniewski 6-0, 6-1.
Jette Dammeier battled through another close match at No. 5 singles. After taking the opening set 6-4, Dammeier edged Moreira in a second-set tiebreak to complete the 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory.
Sarah Reich added a convincing win at No. 6 singles, defeating Sam D'Addezio 6-2, 6-1.
Catholic earned victories at the top two singles positions. Nemoy defeated Meena Lennon in a three-set battle at No. 1, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9, while Valentino defeated Bluemm 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
Batten's four singles victories completed the comeback and secured the 4-3 team win.
