The Batten University women's soccer team improved to 5-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in ODAC play with a 2-1 road victory over Shenandoah University (6-3-0, 0-2-0).
Batten opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Alexis Manfredi found the back of the net to give the Marlins an early 1-0 advantage. Manfredi finished the match with three shots, including two on goal.
Shenandoah answered in the 36th minute to even the match at 1-1, sending the teams into halftime tied. Batten generated six shots in the opening 45 minutes while limiting Shenandoah to five.
The Marlins regained the lead in the 69th minute. Alaina Alston finished a chance created by Lyla Wells and Courtney Mills, putting Batten ahead 2-1. The goal was Alston's lone tally of the match and her 7th goal on the season.
Shenandoah increased the pressure over the final 20 minutes, but goalkeeper Allie Greco and the Batten defense protected the one-goal advantage. Greco made four saves over the final 13 minutes, including stops in the 85th and 87th minutes, to help secure the victory. She finished with six saves while allowing just one goal in 90 minutes.
