Men's Tennis Rolls Past Virginia State in 7-0 Shutout

The Batten University men's tennis team delivered a commanding performance against Virginia State University, sweeping the Trojans 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Marlins captured all three doubles matches before winning each of the six singles contests to complete the shutout victory.

Batten controlled doubles play from the opening match, surrendering just four games across the three contests. The Marlins carried that momentum into singles competition, where five of their six victories came in straight sets.

The Marlins opened doubles action with a dominant showing at the No. 1 position, where Jed Platts and Tudor Vlad defeated Virginia State's Justin Jackson and Bryan Jordan, 6-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Simon Oster and Frieso ter Schiphorst continued Batten's strong start, earning a 6-3 victory over Maxwell Browne and Connor Matthews.

Batten completed the doubles sweep at the No. 3 position as Ulrik Øye Jåsund and Natan Aerts delivered a flawless performance against Brandon Farmer and Krishi Motam, winning 6-0.

The three victories secured the doubles point and gave the Marlins a 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.

Batten continued its impressive performance in singles action, winning all six matches to complete the 7-0 victory.

At No. 1 singles, Josh Buckland set the tone with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over Bryan Jordan.

At No. 3 singles, Tudor Vlad delivered one of the most dominant performances of the match, shutting out Brandon Farmer 6-0, 6-0. Vlad did not surrender a game in singles competition after contributing to Batten's victory at No. 1 doubles.

The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 4 singles, where Ulrik Øye Jåsund battled Maxwell Browne in a three-set contest. After dropping the opening set 6-2, Jåsund responded with a 6-4 victory in the second set before completing the comeback with a 6-3 win in the deciding set.

At No. 5 singles, Jan Hendrix added another point for the Marlins with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Connor Matthews.
