Marlins Rally in Singles Play to Secure 4-3 Win Over Washington College

The Batten University men's tennis team (2-0) remained unbeaten defeating Washington College, 4-3. After dropping the doubles point, the Marlins responded with four singles victories to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Shoremen fell to 0-1.

Doubles

Washington College opened the afternoon by claiming all three doubles matches to secure the opening point.

At No. 1 doubles, Batten's Josh Buckland and Jed Platts fell to Demir Isiker and Maxi Synnestvedt by a score of 6-3.

The Marlins' No. 2 pairing of Simon Öster and Frieso ter Schiphorst battled Petter Storberg and Oskar Wroblewski in a tightly contested match. The Washington College duo ultimately prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).

At No. 3 doubles, Sebastien Muller and Ulrik Øye Jåsund put together another competitive performance for Batten but came up just short against A. Tinnes-Rimehaug and Oscar Lundsfryd, falling 7-5.

Singles

Despite trailing 1-0 entering singles competition, the Marlins quickly turned the momentum in their favor, winning four of the six singles matches to secure the team victory.

At No. 1 singles, Jed Platts delivered a strong performance against Oscar Lundsfryd. Platts controlled the opening set with a 6-2 victory before holding off Lundsfryd in a competitive second set, 7-5, to earn the straight-set win.

At No. 2 singles, Josh Buckland faced Petter Storberg in a hard-fought matchup. Buckland battled throughout both sets but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-3.

Sebastien Muller provided Batten with a dominant performance at No. 3 singles, defeating Maxi Synnestvedt in straight sets. Muller surrendered just one game throughout the match, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory to give the Marlins their first singles win of the afternoon.

At No. 4 singles, Simon Öster continued the Marlins' momentum with another convincing victory. Oster defeated Demir Isiker 6-2, 6-0, controlling the match from start to finish to secure another point for Batten.

Tudor Vlad delivered the decisive fourth point for the Marlins at No. 5 singles. Vlad defeated A. Tinnes-Rimehaug in straight sets, taking the opening set 6-1 before closing out the match with a 6-3 victory. His performance secured Batten's 4-3 team win.

Rounding out singles competition at the No. 6 position, Ulrik Øye Jåsund faced Oskar Wroblewski. Jasund battled throughout the contest but fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
