Marlins Sweep Doubles, Win Three Single Matches On Day Two of CNU Duals

The Batten University men's tennis team turned in a strong performance on the second day of the CNU Duals, sweeping all three doubles matches before picking up three singles victories against Christopher Newport.

The Marlins were perfect in doubles action, beginning with Simon Oster and Frieso ter Schiphorst defeating Ivan Ceric and David Garcia Carrasco, 6-4. Sebastien Muller and Tudor Vlad followed with a 7-5 victory over Jackson Grathwohl and Sam Halvorsen.

Sam Dixon and Olaf Van der Stam completed the doubles sweep in the closest match of the three, with Sam earning his first collegiate win. The Batten duo battled Preston Green and Anderson Fortney into a tiebreak before coming away with a 7-6 (3) victory.

Batten carried its success into singles play with three more victories. Jed Platts earned a three-set win over Andrew Kinnear after dropping the opening set, 5-7. Platts responded by taking the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (2), before winning the deciding match tiebreak, 1-0 (7).

Oster completed an undefeated day with his second victory, defeating Grathwohl in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Vlad also went 2-0 on the day, cruising past Green, 6-3, 6-2.

Muller pushed Matt Miller to three sets after taking the opening frame, 6-3, before falling 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8). Josh Buckland was defeated by Garcia Carrasco, 6-3, 7-6 (5), while Ulrik Oye Jasund fell to Fortney, 6-4, 6-4.

The CNU Duals conclude Sunday in Newport News.
